The Perth Polo Club is fully affiliated with the Federation of International Polo. Polo is organised on a worldwide basis and played in many countries.
The ultimate world controlling body is the Federation of International Polo - FIP. The Australian national body, The Australian Federation of Polo - AFP, - is fully affiliated with the FIP and controls Polo within Australia. The membership of this federated body is the State and Territory bodies, in our case the WA Polo Association (https://www.wapolo.com.au/)
It is through this body that the Perth Polo Club is fully connected internationally.
The Club has over many years developed close connections with other countries and is thrilled that today we host several of our Asian neighbours annually through a Polo Asian Engagement Strategy in partnership with the WA Polo Association and funded by the WA Dept of Local Government Sport and Cultural Industries

Rules
There are two classes of Umpires - professional and amateur. Generally, professional umpires travel internationally. Amateur umpires provide umpiring services locally. All playing members are expected to know the rules of polo and when judged competent they are expected to provide umpiring services locally. The WAPA appoints the State Umpire, who is charged with the task of providing training to umpires and maintaining a standard of umpiring.
Umpires
Each registered player has a personal handicap awarded by the WA Polo Association Handicap Committee. This is a worldwide handicap, and some national bodies reserve the right to adjust handicaps of international players to preserve the integrity of their respective tournaments. For more information, refer to https://www.wapolo.com.au/handicaps.
Handicaps
Polo ponies are integral to the successful sport of polo. Horse welfare is critical to all players, and each club administers horse welfare through their appointed Horse Welfare Officer.
